Where do I go to check out the equipment?

Rentals Main Page

Can I check a piece of equipment out all semester?

If your professor requires you to have access to a piece of equipment all semester long, such as having an iLok, you can maintain possession of the same piece of equipment throughout the entirety of the semester. However, you will have to come back to CAMS every week to check in and “Renew” your piece of equipment.

What happens if I can’t make it back on time?

Here at CAMS, we try to work with you as much as possible. If something out of your control happens such as an illness, car accident, injury, etc then we’ll work with you to figure out a time that you can bring the gear back without incurring a late fee. However, if you find yourself just running late you will be charged a late fine upon returning the equipment. We have been known to show grace though if you reach out via phone or email beforehand and let us know that you’ll be running late. More information on the late fee structure can be seen through the link below.

What do I do if I’m supposed to have access to certain equipment but I don’t have the password for the page?

If you believe you’re supposed to have an access password, and you don’t, please don’t hesitate to reach out to CAMS. We’ll make sure any clerical error on our end gets taken care of as soon as possible.

What if my gear reservation says I owe money?

If your gear reservation says you owe any sum of money rest assured that is just a clerical error on our end. Equipment will always be free to rent for students. Free gear rental is one of the incredible benefits Cornerstone provides to its media students. The only time you will ever pay any sort of “Fee” is if the equipment is returned either late or damaged, that’s it.

Studios

Why won’t my student ID let me into the studios?

Studios are only available to students whose classes require them. That being said if your class does require studio access and you’re still unable to gain entrance into one of the studios don’t hesitate to reach out to CAMS. We’ll reach out to Campus Safety on your behalf and make sure your student ID gets given access to the needed rooms.

Do I have to “Checkout” the studios?

Yes, you do have to “Checkout” studio spaces. Checking out studio spaces ensures that you’re the only person to have that space during a certain span of time. Additionally, checking out studio spaces helps us maintain the quality of each individual space.

 Equipment

Do I need to check through my equipment before I leave CAMS?

Yes, you do need to check through all of your equipment prior to leaving CAMS. Although all of the CAMS workers work very hard to ensure that you get everything you ordered sometimes items do fall through the cracks. We want to make sure any missing items are noted prior to you leaving, that way you’re not found at fault upon returning the items later.

What happens if I lose or break a piece of equipment?

If a piece of equipment is lost or broken you are held responsible for the cost of replacing or repairing that equipment.

If my equipment is due back to CAMS can I leave it in one of the studios since they’re locked?

No, we require that all equipment be returned directly to CAMS. In special circumstances, if students check out incredibly heavy items like Arri light kits we do permit those specific items to be left in the film studio as long as the student informs us that it was left in there.
